Introducing SymphoMe to the Global AI Community
From 11 to 13 April 2025, the SymphoMe team had the pleasure of participating in the AI Show in San Diego, one of the leading global summits that brings together innovators across artificial intelligence, education, and technology. It was an exciting and validating moment for us as we showcased Version 1 of our multimodal music teaching technology. This early release is designed to support piano learners using advanced audio signal processing and context-aware artificial intelligence to provide personalised feedback during independent practice.
Solving the Real Challenge in Music Practice
At the heart of our product lies a simple but powerful insight. Over 80 percent of a music learner’s journey takes place independently, outside formal lessons, whether or not they have access to a teacher. This personal practice time can often leave learners feeling lost, unsure of their progress, or unable to identify what needs improvement. SymphoMe addresses this challenge by offering intelligent feedback that listens, adapts, and teaches just like a human tutor. It provides learners with a structured, responsive practice companion that enhances the quality of their self-guided learning.
Our technology functions as a full-time music coach, available around the clock. It listens to user performance, evaluates their progress, and delivers relevant feedback in the moment. Through a natural two-way conversational model, learners can receive explanations, encouragement, and corrections, making practice not only more effective but also more engaging.
Version 1 of this product is the direct output of a Scottish Enterprise SMART grant awarded to support research and development in AI-led music education. The grant allowed us to experiment, test, and refine our core teaching engine in line with real-world learning behaviours. We are proud to see it now coming to life and resonating with both music educators and the wider AI community.
Why Learners Need More Than YouTube
Alongside addressing practice gaps, we also see a growing trend of learners turning to digital tools to support their musical growth. Data shows that more than 64 percent of music learners now rely on platforms like YouTube or educational apps to aid their progression. However, while these tools offer accessibility, they also present challenges. Learners often struggle to determine which materials are appropriate, or how to use them effectively. And perhaps most crucially, these platforms are not interactive. They do not listen to user performance or offer meaningful feedback. That is where SymphoMe stands out. Our platform learns with the user, adapting to their needs and guiding them at every step.
Celebrating Thought Leadership in AI and Education
Attending the AI Show gave us the opportunity to engage with educators, researchers, developers, and investors who share our belief in using technology to enhance learning outcomes. It was especially meaningful to witness our Co-founder, Karol Fitzpatrick, recognised as one of the leading women globally championing the application of artificial intelligence in education. With more than 35 years of experience in music education, Karol continues to shape our direction and ensure that pedagogical integrity remains at the core of everything we build.
Representing SymphoMe at the summit were Ifeanyichukwu Ezinmadu, our Founder and CEO, and Adam Deedman, a Junior AI Engineer on our team. Together, they delivered live demonstrations, engaged in panel discussions, and gathered valuable insights that will inform our next development milestones.
- Affordable Access: SymphoMe reduces the cost barrier by offering high-quality learning tools at a fraction of the price of private lessons.
- Anytime, Anywhere Learning: Whether at home or on the go, students can learn at their own pace, accessing resources anytime.
SymphoMe also supports teachers, giving them tools to monitor student progress, provide personalised feedback, and manage lessons efficiently. The result? A seamless learning experience that benefits everyone involved.
Looking Ahead
We left San Diego encouraged by the response to our work and excited about the road ahead. This is only the beginning of what we hope will be a long journey of impact in the world of music education. Thank you to everyone who visited our booth, offered feedback, and shared words of encouragement.
